Yo-Yo Ma called me? 😱😂

Speaking of Yo-Yo Ma in Berlin, I have to mention our city’s declining market…

While his concerts were sold out everywhere else, ticket sales for his shows in Berlin at that time were really not very good.
So back then, among all the concerts, making Yo-Yo Ma’s concert a box-office success became the top priority for all of us.

I worked in a very “German” team.

How “German” was it?

• Well, they believed that all Asians could communicate perfectly with one another, with no cultural or language barriers.
• Even though Yo-Yo Ma is an American citizen, as long as his name is Yo-Yo Ma, he’s Asian—he’s Chinese.

I’m Chinese too, so those two Chinese people are bound to make the concert a huge success (please join me in giving this a big “what the heck” face, thanks).

2. As the first non-German/non-German-descended

employee in the company’s centuries-long history, whenever a concert features an Asian or Asian-American musician, people at the company automatically assume I have “better connections” to secure better footage.
